Philip Guttentag

Philip Guttentag Born outside Johannesburg South Africa, Philip attended schooling in Johannesburg.

Matriculated at St John's College, followed by a compulsory two-year's national service period.

On completion of military service, he spent two years travelling before enrolling for BSc degree in Agriculture at Natal University.

After the first year's studies he decided to pursue his real interest and changed curriculum to electrical engineering. Graduated in 1986. He joined the local power utility Eskom in their EHV electrical protection division in Germiston.  Work here involved control and protection systems for the national grid and distribution networks.

In 1991 he joined Eugene Oosthuizen in a specialist high-end retail business, which experienced good growth morphing into wholesale, custom install and retail divisions within a few years. Distribution of Marantz, B & W, Monstercable, Mark Levinson and others ensued. Philip sold his interest in the business in 2001 to relocate to Durban where he embarked on a new high performance loudspeaker venture with Laurence Dickie and Robert Trunz. The objective of the fledgling company was to provide thoroughly engineered, attractive design solutions in the high-end loudspeaker firmament. Vivid Audio was born.

Four hard years followed culminating in the launch of the company and it's first product offering in September 2004 in London.

The company has grown into a pre-eminent loudspeaker design and manufacturing house. The recipient of numerous industry and engineering awards and accolades. The flagship GIYA product being hailed by many as the finest example of the art in the high-end today.
